University of Brighton
old v's community partner
Old Varndeanians is proud to be the official alumni and community club of the University of Brighton.
The relationship between the University and the Old V’s began in 1984 and the club quickly became
the club of choice for departing University students.
Since then hundreds of current and former University students have played for the club and in the nineties
the club added an extra team to accommodate the University’s Saturday football club. In 2002 the Old V’s
formalised even further its link with the University by moving its home ground to the University’s Falmer
campus and now trains and plays at the University. Current University students have free membership of the Old V’s.
In 2006, the club was asked to take over the administration of the Chelsea Academicals Vets Team, which is
exclusively made up of Lecturers and other staff from the University’s Eastbourne campus. The Old V’s Vets
Team plays in the Mid Sussex Veterans Competition.
In 2008-09 there were over 30 current or former University student members of the club forming, on average,
an impressive 50% of the match day squads for the three club teams.
In 2009 the University collaborated on a new strategic plan for the Old V’s designed to create ever closer
links in the future.
