Old Varndeanians FC

It
is with deep regret that we announce the sad news of the death of Andy
Sibson
at the age of 51. Andy suffered a fatal heart attack whilst playing for Old Varndeanians Veterans side on Sunday 18th January
2009.
Andy
was originally from Rothley, Leicestershire where his parents still
live. A
keen Leicester City FC and
Leicester Tigers
fan, he saw himself as still very much a Leicester lad. Andy was an
active
associate member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) with full
membership
pending. He was a hugely popular man of great intelligence, wit and
wisdom who
had a positive influence on a vast number of people through
his teaching,
coaching and an extensive network of family, friends and colleagues.
Andy
Sibson will be greatly missed by all who have been fortunate enough to
know
him.
Andy’s
work at The Cavendish School, Eastbourne for 25 years as Head of PE and
Deputy
Head was highly admired and respected by people within the school and
through the
wider education community. Previously he taught at Paignton Community
College.
Andy
had many sporting passions one of which was volleyball. He was very
highly
regarded as a player with Paignton in the National league and as an
English
Volleyball Association staff coach. In 1984 he founded Eastbourne
Volleyball club
which is still thriving. Andy had only recently given up playing and
coaching
due to work commitments. In 1978, during his teacher training at
Nottingham
Trent Polytechnic, he won the British Colleges Long Jump title.
Andy
was co-author, with Paul Beashall and John Taylor, of The World of
Sport
Examined GCSE learning materials. Andy was also a contributor to
several QCA PE
working groups over a number of years. To a wider audience he is known
nationally for ghost writing the autobiography of Pakistan test
cricketer
Mushtaq Ahmed.
